We are delighted to welcome Lieutenant Colonel Nadir Attar, Army Attaché at the German Embassy in London, for a briefing on the modern German Army. Over the past five years, Germany has transformed from a relatively cautious defence spender into one of the world's largest military investors. Defence expenditure is projected to rise from €95 billion in 2025 to €162 billion by 2029, marking the most significant rearmament programme since the end of the Cold War. Join us to discover how Germany's army is adapting to meet today's security challenges.

Military Film Club Presents: Now it Can Be Told

Now It Can Be Told, is a (just) post-Second World War reconstruction of the work of the Special Operations Executive (SOE), F Section, in France featuring real members of the French Resistance and SOE personnel. This is a composite story of actual events and the players show how their sabotage culminated on D-Day in insurrections by thousands of armed patriots which helped hastened the enemy's defeat. The film will be shown on the big screen in the Gascoigne Suite. Tickets are FREE but MUST be booked in advance. Members are welcome to bring guests. (Running time 68 mins).

At the height of the Cold War in 1956, 'Buster' Crabb, an experienced ex-naval diver, went missing on a mission to inspect the underwater fittings of a Soviet cruiser in Portsmouth Harbour. The discovery of a floating body of a frogman - without a head - fourteen months later seemed to end the story - but not the political repercussions. Join us to find out what happend. LINK GOES LIVE SATURDAY 13/12/2025  The UJC's Military Film Club's first presentation can be viewed here. It is the first showing since 1968 of the BBC film Christmas Day Passed Quietly. The film, an exploration with eyewitness accounts of the truces and games of football that broke out across WW1 battlefronts during Christmas 1914, was expertly introduced and concluded by Film Club member John March. Mike’s story and subject matter entertained and enthralled Members; from piloting US Navy P-3s hunting Russian submarines in the North Atlantic during the 1980s, to working in the Operations Directorate, Joint Staff, in the Pentagon, and now attempting to wield the 'power of power' as the CEO of a global security and nuclear power business. Presented by Bob Shaw, at the Union Jack Club, Waterloo London on the 30th April 2026, our talk covers the conflict in Kosovo in 1998 and 1999, fought between Yugoslav forces and the Kosovo Liberation Army. The conflict ended when NATO used air strikes and with the intervention of 1 Para, 3 Para and 1 Gurkha Rifles to secure routes to allow the movement of NATO armoured forces to provide humanitarian relief.
